Exhibition runs through artistic production of the artist Lola Fernández.

A selection of some of the most representative works in the artistic production of the artist Lola Fernández Caballero seen in the new exhibition of the Central Bank Museums.

The sample has the name Lola Fernández: the alchemy of painting and provides an overview of the work of a whole life of this artist, twice winner of Achilles Echeverría in arts and awarded the National Prize of Culture Magon 1995.

"With this exhibition we want to introduce visitors to a fundamental dimension in art in which technique and its application materials are factors that together end up being a completely different unit. The artist's work is characterized by that level of experimentation that by mastering the composition, refers metaphorically to the principles of alchemy "said Maria Alejandra Triana, curator.

63 works, including paintings, drawings, prints, textiles and reliefs comprise this anthology. It also has a timeline showing dynamically Fernandez's biography and four instructional videos that explain some of the techniques used by the artist, including the stencil, the reliefs by superposition, glazes and fillings, the blasting technique of painting, collage and image transfer.

 Accents of his work

The exhibition is a special emphasis on rescuing compositional and technical aspects of the work of Fernández "We want people to understand beyond the subject of the painting and notice features and technical details and design used by the artist" adds Triana.

Another feature in his work that can be appreciated by visitors is the master in the use of color as well as the series of works performed, in some cases related to topics of particular interest, such as volcanoes, violence and public spectacles.

"Lola is considered one of the great colorists of Costa Rican art. Combinations thereof, by contrast or harmony, are very rich in their jobs. The blades in his paintings range from very diverse and highly saturated colors to monochromatic works "says Triana.

Artistic journey

The exhibition is organized into six themes. The first introduces visitors to the training period of the artist. Subsequently, it delves into the works that introduced his work internationally through current abstract informalism, in the early 60s. In this decade also worked figurative art, whose production is analyzed in the issue three.

This will usher in the decade of the 70s and 80s, a period where the artist had a phase of technical experimentation and finally shows his most recent resume again characterized by the use of more traditional painting techniques, dominated pairs symbolic characters in situations and groups of people in public performances, occasionally without abandoning the use of abstraction.
